More drawing needs to happen

I'm going to do something to the top one.. I got a landscape handbook... because I like long compositions... but it's kind of awkward and unwieldy to draw in. Was listening to Aquarium by Nosaj Thing over and over again so I wanted maybe..some text in there so I wanted the empty space.. but it looked really odd so that page is an afterthought.

But I guess I shouldn't be thinking about it that intensely.

I finally got my old scanner to work. turns out I've just been downloading the driver over and over again and forgot to download the software. whoops.

I'm going to miss the super nice epson scanners at school. what a sexy beast.

Decided to dedicate a seperate post for this. since it's semi longish.. uh. and I'm too lazy to figure out if they did get rid of page breaks or not.

Kind of based off a poem by Vladmir Mayakovsky. I'm not really sure how I found it but I like it a lot. I was also listening to Adele "chasing pavements" on repeat. melancholy days...

anyhoo.. I'm thinking about maybe turning this into a woodcut. I have a thing for singular central compositions. bad me. I'll try and move away from that. My independent study teacher pointed out that I seem to go straight with a very simplistic finish, and that maybe I should start out with a more fleshed out detailed sketch and simplify it from there, so I'm more conscious of what I'm simplifying and not losing something that could potentially make the piece stronger as a whole.

It's a weird feeling knowing that I'm graduating and won't have the benefit of having in-class critiques or feedback from teachers. So my plan for this summer is to try and experiment with as many different mediums, even though I want to keep up with woodcut, it's not as flexible as I'd like it to be, and I don't want to limit myself to certain jobs because of how long the process is.

I've been doing a bunch of spring cleaning, not only in my apartment/studio but also on my computer. So there's been a lot of rereading of super teenagery angsty notes. They're super embarrassing but sometimes I say some really weird phrases that I think could have an interesting image to go along with . So we'll see.

some sketchbook stuff I haven't really had time this or last semester to do any drawing for myself. so I'm planning on doing a lot more of that over summer. Planning on doing a bunch of woodcuts too! hopefully it'll all work out and I'll have pieces I like.

Cute Show photos!!

Yaaaay! We did it! Cute show opening was a super success and we all had a blast.

This is a super image heavy post, I tried to pick out the best from the pictures I took but it's still quite a lot.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the opening cause I forgot my camera upstairs.. and got there half an hour late. whoops.

Cute show was an amazing experience, I'm kind of sad that it was only a one week deal. We advertised the shit out of it. And in true illustration department spirit, set up the show gradually over the week. Which I think helped us a lot as people got super excited that they were seeing new things everyday. I think if we had an extra week we'd probably fill the entire gallery and transform it into some crazy cute land.

Here's how my brain functions when it's 5am and I have ideas but don't really want to sketch them out.

Some semi-personal stuff. These are for my independent study with this guy. It was a really nice surprise to see a variety of the work he's done. Google image produced only one image that he may or may not have done. One of the reasons why I wanted to do an independent study with him was because I knew he loved surrealistic imagery from the few pieces that he's brought in to show us. I think I'm starting to rant. ok.

Wow I'm a dumb

A bunch of illustration kids drew some spooky/halloween related things and it was bound into a book and given to a teacher at Massart who's all about halloween.
Some scans of a couple pages I did.. I did a spread but for some odd reason I forgot to scan the other half? I thought I double checked and everything to make sure. I'm a dumb. GUESS WHICH ONE'S THE SPREAD?
I think the severed head girl was drawn in response to people thinking my dry point resembled a same weber painting. rageragerage

an apple done on corel painter. I think we had to use the color and depth option. I'm not too keen on it. it's super cheesy. aightaightaight. After a while I just felt stupid trying to make a digital piece look traditional.

A Swedish Style of Smoking

I did a shit-shitty painting yesterday.

When I get really bored I like to go through people's photo albums on facebook. Sometimes I find pictures that really stand out to me like this one of a guy smoking two cigarettes, of course the next photo in the album is the swedish style of dealing with a hangover at starbucks, really classy stuff.

so I just have a folder of weird photos that I find interesting and I wasn't sure what I wanted to paint so I just bhsruhsfrhssfsdfsf this together. the heart and crown is a tattoo around someone's nipple. blahblahblalblablblaah. The girl holding her dress up is from someone's flickr.. I think.

I have super unsteady hands so it's blurry and shitty but that's ok cause it's a blurry and shitty painting. I'm probably not going to finish it. one with flash and one without, I guess one is more in focus while the other one's just..for seeing exactly what's going on. blahblahblblbalafhdsf

I want a really fine brush that won't die on me after one use.

Then I went back down again to see the Jeff Soto and Dave Cooper show at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. Really good stuff!

Friends and I decided to get to the gallery via the High line. It used to be an elevated railway for freight trains, but it hasn't been used for a long time so they're turning into a park. I think maybe about a third of it is done, there're plans for 3 different sections and they all have different themes. Super cool.

On the way to the Bronx Zoo. We had to walk past a lot of condos to get to the zoo and there were a couple of ground level apartments that had these big dolls lined up facing the window.
