Listen!

Decided to dedicate a seperate post for this. since it's semi longish.. uh. and I'm too lazy to figure out if they did get rid of page breaks or not.
anyways

Kind of based off a poem by Vladmir Mayakovsky. I'm not really sure how I found it but I like it a lot. I was also listening to Adele "chasing pavements" on repeat. melancholy days...

anyhoo.. I'm thinking about maybe turning this into a woodcut. I have a thing for singular central compositions. bad me. I'll try and move away from that. My independent study teacher pointed out that I seem to go straight with a very simplistic finish, and that maybe I should start out with a more fleshed out detailed sketch and simplify it from there, so I'm more conscious of what I'm simplifying and not losing something that could potentially make the piece stronger as a whole.

It's a weird feeling knowing that I'm graduating and won't have the benefit of having in-class critiques or feedback from teachers. So my plan for this summer is to try and experiment with as many different mediums, even though I want to keep up with woodcut, it's not as flexible as I'd like it to be, and I don't want to limit myself to certain jobs because of how long the process is.

oh yeah here's the poem if you want to read it!

“Listen!”
Valdimir Mayakovsky

Listen, if stars are lit
it means - there is someone who needs it.
It means - someone wants them to be,
that someone deems those specks of spit magnificent.

And overwrought,
in the swirls of afternoon dust,
he bursts in on God,
afraid he might be already late.
In tears,
he kisses God’s sinewy hand
and begs him to guarantee
that there will definitely be a star.
He swears
he won’t be able to stand
that starless ordeal.

Later,
He wanders around, worried,
but outwardly calm.

And to everyone else, he says:
‘Now,
it’s all right.
You are no longer afraid,
are you?’

Listen,
if stars are lit,
it means - there is someone who needs it.
It means it is essential
that every evening
at least one star should ascend
over the crest of the building.

I've been doing a bunch of spring cleaning, not only in my apartment/studio but also on my computer. So there's been a lot of rereading of super teenagery angsty notes. They're super embarrassing but sometimes I say some really weird phrases that I think could have an interesting image to go along with . So we'll see.

Sorry Guise

Still alive! Too busy not doing anything!
Don't want to make this an image heavy post so here's a piece from my portfolio
you can see the rest of my portfolio pieces on my websiiiitieeeeeeee : http://amanda-lo.com/
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! website navigation thing is still in the works I want to do something silly with it but not sure how it'll stand on a professional level. WE'LL SEE.

I'm graduating next friday. it's kind of a weird feeling. I still need to hear back and see if I can do OPT and stay in the states. sick life. thanks.
alright alright alright. YEAAAAAAH. I have a couple of ideas for some new pieces. hopefully I can do summer studios and have a space to work in. I'm going to try and see if I can incorporate some digital aspects to this to maybe speed up the process.. who knows? I'm not a fan with working with textures in photoshop. I'd rather just..do it by hand. but we'll see. fun stuff fun stuff fun stuff!

Sometimes I do things

Some semi-personal stuff. These are for my independent study with this guy. It was a really nice surprise to see a variety of the work he's done. Google image produced only one image that he may or may not have done. One of the reasons why I wanted to do an independent study with him was because I knew he loved surrealistic imagery from the few pieces that he's brought in to show us. I think I'm starting to rant. ok.

Society of Illustrators

So I got into the  Society of Illustrators student scholarship competition show(<-click it). My professor called me at 9:30 am to personally congratulate me but I was asleep and my phone was on silent, so he texted me to call him back. I got up an hour later and saw it and got suuuuuuuuuuuuper nervous and didn't call him back till much later when my friend was screaming at me about how stupid I was being. The whole conversation is kind of a blur to me right  now and I don't think I heard half the things he said, mostly it was me just going hrurughfhghgghfhfgh whuuut?

Yeah I'm kinda sorta super articulate.

.....
yeah...
Check out the other entries they're suuuuuuuuuuuper beautiful. I spent a long time screaming at how awesome some of the pieces are. It's obvious I still have a lot of work to do. Feel super overwhelmed. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah ok.
I'm probably going to shit my pants at the show.
just saying.

alrighty.
this is the piece I got in.

I'm so so so so so so so so so so scared.
I'm still super nervous

I ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION THAT FELLOW MASSARTIAN(?) CALEB OLSON ALSO GOT IN

Some Woodcut things but not really?

woodcuts are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun.
I'm taking an intro to printmaking class this semester and it makes me wish I was a printmaking major instead. (minus all the fineartsystuffthingsok)
so far we've done monotypes and two different kinds of woodcut, we're moving on to dry point now.
I'll probably put up scans of some of my monotypes.
ANYWAYSNANNNNNANANANNYWAYS.
woodcuts after the jump!

There really should be a limit

to how incredibly stupid I can be.
I told myself I'd keep this blog to my own personal work and not show any schoolwork.
Obviously I haven't had time to do any personal work
but here's some dumbdumbdumbdumb sketches. ok.
Maybe I'll put up some printmaking stuff. They're fun and fine artsy. but not really.

seeeeeeeeeeeenior year

Aaah

My cat just sprinkled my bed with her cat litter and now I'm super sad and lying on my bed crying tears of blood. Covered in cat litter.
I've been trying to find an internship with a gallery or with an artist cause I thought it'd be interesting to try something not commercial/nothing related to illustration. But uh..so far not so much luck with that.

I made banana bread today and now my apartment smells delicious but I'm still very sad because I'm still lying in cat litter. Laundry time..soon.

I'm taking an online course now to help me forget my loneliness correct my horrible sleeping habit and get motivated to do stuff. Plus my writing sucks so I gotta practice.

But I've also gotten over feeling guilty about playing my PS2 so I'm kind of failing productivity wise right now.
but we'll see.

No sketches for now cause I'm a lazy bumbumbummm.

I want chinese food so bad.

Also. My friend and I are working on a site for uh.. potential point and click games we will make
in the near future, and maybe some comic-sy things. Actually right now he's doing all the work I'm just sitting here brain farting and eating lots.

Soo much cat litter.

I'm always apprehensive about posting stuff on here and how I write cause I don't know who reads this. I kind of feel like no one really does anyways.

I dunno. I feel like I should be writing uh.. more professionally? But at the same time I feel like the first impression people have of me is an ice cold asian bitch. So I guess this is my way of saying hey ..hey... I'm pretty cool. right? I don't take everything seriously eh... I like silly things.. I have a sense of humor. aaaaaaaaaaaaaah.. ok

get off my bed cat.
